The Cause
Hope for Korah provides holistic care to break the cycle of extreme poverty for the most vulnerable children and families living in Korah, Ethiopia. Located next to the Addis Ababa garbage dump, this community has some of the most severe levels of urban poverty in the world.
Many survive through precarious forms of work, begging, prostitution, or scavenging at the trash dump. Living in such desperate conditions, poses significant challenges for children as both their lives and education are often fragmented, with little hope for the future. There are very few places to study or play in an overcrowded slum. It is common for children in Korah to take months or even years off from school due to economic hardship, poor health, taking care of a sick family member or losing a parent. This often leads to children and youth becoming engaged in familial patterns of begging, scavenging, addiction, teen pregnancy, and feelings of hopelessness.
To break this ingrained cycle of survival mode, C5TS will provide opportunities for these at-risk children through HFK’s Youth Empowerment Centre; a safe and supportive place that is equipped with programs aimed at helping children thrive and stay in school. Over the next 5 years this Empowerment Center will significantly enhance:
- the education of 400 core children through HFK’s after-school tutoring program
- and engage more than 1000 community children in sports, clubs, life-skills training, and other organized activities.
These programs are designed to fill in gaps that might otherwise hinder children’s ability to learn and reach their full potential.
HFK’s goal is that all children in our programs will be given opportunities to flourish and that every one of our core children will graduate and attend university, college, or vocational school. With these goals in view, C5TS’s support of HFK’s Youth Empowerment Centre is sure to bring a lasting cycle of change to the community of Korah.

The Connection
The journey with Hope for Korah (HFK) began many years ago through friends. Since then, Kristen and I have attended many of their fundraising events and have sponsored children and families annually – always impressed by the passion shown by Eve in her projects to promote positive change in Korah. As such, it was only fitting that HFK is named one of our five charities when Cycle 5 To Survive launched!

Maximize Charitable Donations
100% of every dollar we raise will end up going directly to the specified cause chosen by each charity.
We achieved this by covering all expenses, including credit card and processing fees, and each charity waiving all administrative fees.
It is acceptable and standard for charities to charge administrative fees that help cover their operations and fundraising costs. C5TS is an extraordinary initiative and outside of the charities normal course of activity. C5TS is a unique and one-off partnership that wants to maximize and leverage the strength of their efforts because they are covering all costs for time, operations and fundraising.
